“Fostering the Future,” which aims to support young people aging out of the foster-care system, is paired with an effort to put the religious rights of people who wish to foster above the civil rights of L.B.G.T.Q.+ youth.

For Trump, “Fostering the Future” Looks a Lot Like the Past
By putting the religious rights of potential foster parents above the civil rights of L.G.B.T.Q. youth, a new executive order reënacts the original sin of the child-welfare system.

Institutionalizing children & youth is harmful, ineffective, & up to 50x more expensive than family-based care. NY must end this failed model & invest in care that helps children & youth heal and thrive.

The U.S. failed to appear before the UN Human Rights Council for its scheduled human rights review in Geneva today.

While the review has been postponed, our call for accountability cannot be. The U.S. must show up, listen, and take action to end the ongoing harms to children and families.

From unstable housing to lost community ties, young people who spent time in New York’s institutions have long said the harms follow them even after they leave. Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ youth bear these injustices most. 1/2

Every day, children and families—especially Black, Brown, and Indigenous families—are harmed by the U.S. family policing system (“child welfare”). It operates as a machine of control & surveillance.

This isn't care. It's racialized and poverty-based punishment. #AccountabilityNow #HumanRights

No kid should be forced to grow up too fast.

At Children’s Rights, we believe childhood is everyone’s first right. The right to learn, grow, and be free to just be a kid. Too often, government systems rob children of that chance, forcing them to shoulder adult worries far too soon.
