IT HAS BEGUN!
Fifteen #Chickam eggs went into the new Vevor incubator today!
I'll candle them in 10 days to see how many embryos we have and remove any duds.

This year we have 15 eggs to set, from a nice cross-section of our flock. Our bantams didn't offer us many, but the rest of them MORE than made up for it! 🐓

Okay, so after running the new #Vevor incubator for a few days, I think I've got things dialed in for #Chickam.
It wasn't keeping the two shelves at a usable temp for either, so we're going with ONE shelf, set smack in the middle.
While this avoids risking your knuckles to that dumb exposed top fan,

What it DOES have, inexplicably, is an UNCOVERED high-speed fan mounted to the top that is virtually guaranteed to filet the skin off the back of your knuckles. I know this because...
Yeah. When I placed that hygrometer.
Anyway, I've got it running, we'll see how it goes for the next 4 days or so.

And...
This unit lacks the VITAL notches in the door frame that the ReptiPro had, for the temperature probe cords.
Yikes, that's a PROBLEM, I really need those probes to use with the water weasels to accurately mimic & monitor the temperature inside an egg.

Nifty! I thinks to myself.
But...
The readout is in Celsius...with no way to change that, ha ha.
Okay...
and the view window is scratched in several places...on the *inside*, between the inner and outer panes.😒

For now we're still planning on running the cam on the nest boxes this Sat/Sun the 16th-17th, as next week we collect eggs for #Chickam!

Now they're calling for rain/snow this weekend (last 2 days have been near 80 & beautiful) & have upped the chances of it, with Weather Alerts all around us.

Sadly, Swiffer came down with Marek's (no cure) & passed away. 😕
But three of her eggs are in the incubator right now, and one, #26, has pipped!
So hopefully Swiffer's offspring will terrorize the flock, carrying on her obnoxiousness. 😀

#Chickam Lockdown Day!
All 22* eggs were moved to the bottom of the ReptiPro for the hatch this Saturday, and the humidity raised to 65%. From here on out we don't turn the eggs, only opening the incubator 5x a day let fresh air in. Cracked #8 at far right.
