Our trip this past summer was so wonderful, we're running it again in Summer 2026. We encouraged all interested students to attend this info session.

Dr. Theriault will situate the events of 2023 in a history of genocide and displacement that began with the Ottoman massacres of 1894 and continued, in various forms, reflecting the emergence of nation-states during the interwar period and the rise and fall of the Soviet Union. The Foundational Concepts Series invites engaging scholars to help us reflect on some of the core ideas, themes, and theories that structure contemporary work in the field of Holocaust and genocide studies. Asad Dandia is a Brooklyn-born public historian, organizer, and tour guide, with an MA in Islamic Studies from Columbia University. He has worked for two high-profile organizations that advocate for Muslim Americans. As a teenager, Mr. Dandia was a key plaintiff in an ACLU-led lawsuit that successfully challenged NYPD surveillance of the city's Muslim communities. Black Jewish Reconciliation: Rebuilding the Bridge Featuring Avi Dresner and Donzaleigh Abernathy Donzaleigh Abernathy is the youngest daughter of Rev. Dr. Ralph David Abernathy, Co-Founder of the American Civil Rights Movement and Mrs. Juanita Jones Abernathy. She and her sister are Goddaughters of their parents’ best friend, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. She is an accomplished author and actor. Avi Dresner is a journalist, documentary filmmaker and screenwriter. He has published in NYT and is a two-time recipient of the Rockower Award. His father, Rabbi Israel Dresner, was the most-arrested and jailed rabbi during the Civil Rights Movement and an ally and friend of MLK. The program is free.
