🚨 New preprint! Great work lead by @neuroanup.bsky.social: insular traveling waves that shape memory. 🧠🌊
The insula isn’t just along for the ride—it helps direct the flow.

Even with perfect targeting, #DBS electrodes can bend.

On the CNS Journal Club Podcast, Dr. Kim Burchiel interviewed me about my research on how brain tissue mechanics shape electrode paths + deviation.

Could brain stimulation help restore movement after #stroke?

The RESTORE DBS trial, led by Dr. André Machado and Cleveland Clinic, is now enrolling at Jefferson!

CNN recently covered this innovative approach: amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/08/...

Back from my first @ismrm.bsky.social —great science, thoughtful conversations, and a chance to present our work on how MRE helps explain DBS electrode bending! Grateful to collaborate with teams at UDelaware and Villanova. Definitely not my last ISMRM. And it didn't hurt that it was in Honolulu.

What the FDA will likely do is produce *something* - just not a vax that includes strains chosen based on the committee & WHO's reasoned input.

🔹️They'll throw darts at a board, & the vax won't be a good match (it's tough to get it right even *with* annual input), but folks will think "see,...

Intracranial electrode bending is underrecognized but not random—it correlates with brain stiffness interfaces. Our study shows MR elastography can predict deviations, challenging the idea that bending is inevitable.

Huge prime rib for Christmas dinner🎄🤤

Dry brined overnight, injected with garlic, rosemary, & thyme infused wagyu tallow. Smoked for 4 hours with a rosemary, sage, & thyme 'bouquet garni' tossed in every hour. Finally seared to develop a nice crust before a long rest.
