A screenshot from the article in the quoted skeet: The ABS took the relatively unusual step on 22 August of issuing a press statement publicly contradicting rightwing claims which misused overseas arrivals figures in order to make "inaccurate conclusions" to support inflated claims of mass migration. The figures count people coming in and out of the country, but not necessarily staying. The Institute of Public Affairs, a rightwing thinktank, in turn accused the Albanese government of "weaponising" the ABS in order to "censor" its views.

Mustrum Ridcully's Hat The hat of the current Archchancellor of Unseen University is not the Archchancellor's Hat. Does that make sense? It is not the half-crazed symbol of Wizardry that is the focus of so much of Sourcery, but the creation of its owner, Mustrum Ridcully himself. It is a work of art. It was made specifically for him by a special firm of certified mad hatters (so as to avoid any of the problems that the other Archchancellor's Hat brought about) and is customised heavily. It has a tailored roll of oiled silk and four telescoping legs, which when extended produce a compact and serviceable tent, as well as having drawers in it, and little pockets, a spirit stove, three days' worth of iron rations and a small bottle of potent alcohol in the tip. The hatband is slightly loose too, so that he can stash at least one pistol crossbow in it, and his fishing flies are generally sticking out of it.

The way out of our present age of political violence is not scolding "we have to live here with one another," at those who are not threatening anyone's life, at those whose very existence supremacists refuse to accept. Rather the way out is standing between supremacists and their targets and telling them "no, you have to live with them, just like we live with you, and if you can't do that, then you have a problem with us, too." It's turning to those who just aren't comfortable with trans people and saying "we don't negotiate about people's rights over here, and if you want to see how hard we'll fight for you against the billionaires and bosses who are robbing you blind, watch how hard we fight for them. If hating trans people is so important to you that you're willing to get robbed to death to secure it, we aren't the party for you."

Compared to the existing paragraph 34(1)(a), the new provision's scope is intended to more clearly and accurately reflect how the Cabinet process works in practice, including by specifically referring to documents prepared on a Minister's behalf or by an agency in new subparagraph 34(1)(a)(i), and without referring to documents that have been submitted to Cabinet, or that a Minister proposes to submit to Cabinet. This drafting is based on section 28 of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic). The drafting is intended to reflect, for example, that in some cases a ministerial office or a Minister's department may commence drafting a Cabinet document (such as a draft Cabinet submission or a New Policy Proposal) before it is confirmed that the document will be submitted to Cabinet for consideration, or even before the item has been formally proposed for Cabinet consideration. The amendments are intended to clearly capture these and similar documents, allowing agencies and Ministers to rely on section 34 to refuse access to documents that would disclose the detail of actual or proposed Cabinet considerations. The phrase 'prepared by a Minister, or on a Minister's behalf or by an agency' is also intended to include documents commissioned by a Minister, on their behalf or by an agency. [highlighted section] For example, a Minister or their department may engage an expert to prepare advice or a report, the substantial purpose of which is submission for consideration by the Cabinet. [end highlight] Secure handling of Cabinet documents 1. Cabinet documents, including pre-exposure drafts, exposure drafts, drafts for coordination comments, final submissions, and drafting comments (including coordination comments), must only be circulated via the CabNet+ system to ensure that they are circulated securely and that copies of the documents can be accounted for. It is important, therefore, that exposure drafts, drafts or finals (either in the template or in a document which looks like a Cabinet submission) are not circulated by any other means. 2. Similarly, substantive comments on submissions should only be transmitted via CabNett. 3. Cabinet documents, including drafts, must be circulated strictly in accordance with the 'need-to-know' principle. The circulation of documents must be no wider than is required for the proper and efficient conduct of the business at hand. It must be restricted to those officials who have a role in contributing to the issues in the document and who hold an appropriate security clearance. Departmental officials are not entitled to access merely because it would be convenient for them to know or by virtue of their status or level of authorised access. (a) Cabinet documents which cannot be distributed on the CabNet+ system due to the classification have strict handling requirements. The Cabinet Division will provide advice on these arrangements on an as needs basis. 4. Information and details on the handling of Cabinet documents is also provided in the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and further information on security matters can be sought from departmental security advisers. 5. If you become aware of the circulation of a submission by any means other than as a locked down version on CabNet+, Cabinet Division should be notified as soon as possible. Cabinet Division will identify any possible breach of Cabinet document protocols and contact the relevant department's security adviser.

The report, published last week by Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery Tomoya Obokata, found migrant workers face "alarming and sometimes severe patterns of exploitation" by employers, labour hire companies and migration agents. Workers were exposed to deceptive recruitment, excessive wage deductions, hazardous working conditions, harassment, threats, violence and sexual assault, the report stated.

One of the biggest problems with programs like assisted suicide is that they can very easily become something pushed onto those who have significant care needs that could live a good life if they had access to better support (but that would of course make them visible and "burden" the government with providing care). The "too late for her" of it all is so disheartening to see, because it's just so needlessly bleak and prevents us from ever thinking of this sentient creature (who cares about her family and clearly has the ability to form sophisticated plans) as anything more than an animal that needs to be put down, sounding very similar to the ways fascists talk about people with disabilities
