One of his greatest plays which I’ve see countless times. Most memorable production was when Richard Pasco and Ian Richardson alternated the roles of Richard and Bolingbroke at the RSC in the early 1970s.

Just finished it. Absolutely stunning read. If you haven’t listened to the episode of private passions on radio 3 don’t miss it. He speaks so fluently about music as well as literature.

Hugely well deserved. A wonderful and almost unbearably moving book.
