This fab black and white mosaic is at the entrance to the House of Marcus Caesius Blandus. I love how its marine theme - with its dolphins, hippocampus, trident and rudder- and the crenellated city wall at the top, hint at life in #Pompeii overlooking the Bay of Naples 😍 #archaeology #MosaicMonday

Do you mean Largo Argentina? That’s the area near where he was actually assassinated which is now a cat shelter. Here’s one of the cats - reclining in the sun!

On this day, 15th March 44BCE - the Ides of March, Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of about 60 conspirators. This act ultimately led to the fall of the Roman Republic. For #RomanSiteSaturday today, here are the remains of Caesar’s Forum in #Rome #Archaeology #AncientBlueSky

To avoid famine and civil unrest in Rome, maintaining the grain supply was crucial. This medallion, depicting the Emperor Commodus standing by a light house and welcoming the grain fleets, shows how important protecting Rome’s food supply was seen to be. #FindsFriday #Archaeology #AncientBlueSky

For #IWD2025 - Found at Vindolanda #Roman Fort, this wooden tablet is the invitation of Sulpicia Lepidina to Claudia Severa’s birthday party. Containing in it the earliest example of women’s Latin handwriting known, it’s great to have this early record of female voices! #Archaeology #AncientBlueSky

Here’s a video of the monumental fountain from the Domus Augustana on the Palatine Hill #Rome. Whilst the background music is not from the period (!) the fountain’s restoration allowing water to flow through it again helps visitors hear what it might have been like! ❤️ #SiteSaturday #Archaeology

I love this 2 wheeled cart used for carrying light loads found in the House of the Menander #Pompeii. Whilst much of its wooden elements had perished, its surviving metal parts have enabled its reconstruction. Really fabulous to see 😍! #FindsFriday #Romanarchaeology #AncientBlueSky
