Ready to start a movement that argues universities should spend money on their core functions, rather than flashy nonsense. Such as teaching and research for example.

My modest goal for #acadecawriteathon has been revising 2 pages/day of my Ill Femininities chapter. I also need to be writing a couple hundred words of another piece due this month, but I have a verrrrry wide turning radius when switching tasks. Like an eighteen-wheeler on a city street. Chaos.

Today I offered myself chocolate at 9:28 a.m. because thinking remains difficult plus I had to do arithmetic to figure out if a student has room for another major even though I have 0 phds in arithmetic
I have to think REALLY HARD about this paragraph I'm trying to revise, which apparently means I must turn off all the lights in my office and offer myself chocolate at [checks watch] 10:11 a.m.

starting Dec 1st! ie tomorrow!

for structure to eke out pages at a bonkers time of year (that is also a precious writing-est time):

you can do 250 words a day! books get written that way! if more, amazing! if not when grading or festive-ing, that's ok!

check in daily at #acadecawriteathon
is there a NaNoWriMo but for December and academic/ nonfiction? Should we start it?

👀 when it comes to "harassment" and student protest, northwestern has given the trump administration what appears to be a veto over changes in policy: "Northwestern shall not revise or modify these policies and procedures without the consent of the Assistant Attorney General".

horrible.
You've heard of the Friday night news dump. Here's the Friday night of Thanksgiving wknd dump. For special circumstances, like when the faculty assembly votes 595-4 against paying to end a shakedown and you do it anyway. Link to agreement here: bulkmail.northwestern.edu/trk/click?re...

The federal blitz moved to Charlotte, but the trauma and damage in Chicago are still with us—and DHS says 1,000 agents will hit our streets in March. I wrote about what this moment demands of us: care, clarity, and preparation.
What Now, Chicago? Regrouping After Midway Blitz
Let’s make this a winter of fortification, of learning, and bonding together like the winter snow that federal agents are so afraid of.

Chicago may experience less tear gas use as Operation Midway Blitz winds down. Cold and wet weather reduce effectiveness, while wind adds unpredictability.

ICE/BP’s next targets are reportedly Charlotte and New Orleans.

Two things:

1) If they had the capacity to hit many cities at once, rather than pick on one or two at a time, they would.

2) Moving south seems to confirm speculation that they’re leaving Chicago because it got cold.

I don't think Americans w/ employer-subsidized health insurance realize how much the ratfuckery with the ACA & the economy is affecting them, too.

My health insurance costs are rising by 35% in 2026, b/c of combination of rising premiums (16%) & employer shifting greater share of cost to employees.
