Plant Toucher
krigia is a perfect angel and it's not her fault we think she looks kinda like her eurotrash distant cousin

shout out to Andrena krigiana, who got doubly screwed over by being a specialist in an incredibly rare plant that also looks like a dandelion, and therefore is under-conserved

life isn't fair

so awesome that instead of a prairie there's like, a road, and a useless dug out area that might be a parking lot someday

Let’s check in and see how those rascally solarpunk kids are doing, surely they’ve learned by now that…..

…ah.

Daily reminder:
Leafy greens like kales retain all those delicious heavy metals like lead and cadmium.

Don’t eat sidewalk-crack kale.

This rabbit hole brought to you by the prairie lot in Streeterville, Chicago, which is the beautiful surface-use of a demolished building lot with underground parking.

This lot was Ogden's house that burned down in the fire

wait, William B. Ogden, 1st mayor of Chicago, railroad & real estate mongol, "Astor of Chicago" hung out with a bunch of gay capital-R Romantic poets & essayists, didn't marry until he was 70. His wife was 50, also never married, & was already a friend.

...is Ogden Avenue queer? A beard marriage??

Here's my favorite painting at my local hospital, wherein they are trying to give people heart attacks

Personally, I use Observation Fields for tagging pollinator floral visits. Because Observation Fields are not regulated at all, there are a bunch of different fields that could contain the plant ID.

To manage these search URLs, I made a URL-generating spreadsheet:

SECRET @inaturalist.bsky.social HACKS:
Viewing observation fields.

I spend a lot of time tagging pollinators visiting plants via Observation Fields. Because of people doing this tagging work, you can search for pollinator observation via visited flower. Here's how!

This is so wild because in the contract it explicitly states "Oh yeah even if you accept these terms, we can still sue the hell out of you right after you turn over the money. Hell, we can sue you DURING these negotiations, if we want."

Just like every other case, paying the bully wont stop them

good day to go panderia and street vendor hopping in pilsen and little village

my slovak fob immigrant great-grandma sold vegetables out of the back of her truck in pilsen in the 1930s/40s and goddamit people should be able to safely do it there now too

Next level @inaturalist.bsky.social :
Set up your motion-detecting Ring cameras on flowers for pollinators and the ground for cicadas.

I support the Surveillance State™️ for this purpose specifically. I MUST know who is on my Pycnanthemum muticum at all times.
