No fine, but Sysco had to pay for remediation. Good for the City.

Perhaps Chris Murphy needs to replace Chuck Schumer?

Just to pile on, here’s my husband’s recipe and it’s lovely. Just FYI, he usually soaks dried beans overnight and then pressure cooks them but canned works!

@mtgillikin.bsky.social I agree... July has to be the best month for a rich, full garden.

Do I remember something about signs limiting truck traffic from Cherry to W Main in Fifeville?? It’s still not working!

Any woodworkers out there who love maple?

Fifeville took a few hits.

Waldo, Ernie has been toiling in his forest to eradicate (🤣😩) wisteria planted decades ago. Making progress but requires steady attention. He had to adopt the cut/paint method several years ago with good effect against wisteria as well as multiflora rose, poison ivy, & ailanthus.

It freaked out the larger birds for a while until they got used to it, my bluejay buddy, for one. He got over it but still couldn't overcome the weight limit I put on the perch... I feel a little bad for him but he was rampaging through the seed!

This is the setup you want if the squirrels are driving you batty. It's pricey but worth it: easy to clean, no wire mesh for squirrels to hang upside down. store.bromebirdcare.com/collections/...

Oh, and a slinky so they can't hang onto the pole🤣

When your squirrel (& big bird) buster feeder really works. Next, I'll film the black bird who figured out if he hopped on the ring just lightly enough, the portal would open for him. I'd let them both in but I can't afford their appetites!

I always look forward to Jim’s newsletters. They’re invariably thoughtful, informative, and a little endearing. And @jimduncan.bsky.social, I’m still very happy in the home you helped me buy in 2007!

Good info here about how to assess stores you'd like to support with your shopping, esp. groceries. Sources are good so you can expand your search as needed. Glad Wegman's scored well but the company that owns Food Lion & Giant (Ahold Delhaize) got the best score.

My husband knew it was a bad week for me. This helps. A lot.

I wonder if Fifeville's water main break on January 9 was due to the weather...? Haven't heard but the temps 1/8 and 1/9 both ranged only 22-32 degrees

Buxton NC gets more and more exciting every year. Which buildings will fall? Which must be abandoned (like the house next door to this old beach cottage)? The surf has been thrilling this time: pounding away for 3 days now. It’s a terrible truth of climate change all the same.
