Charlie Golf | FUND ALBERTA'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS 🏫

Elbows Up! Canada 🍁 is NOT for sale. Alberta's PUBLIC SCHOOLS are FUNDED LOWEST IN CANADA. Residing on Treaty 6 territory. Followed by Star Trek on bird app 🖖. Personal Account.
We simply don't have the resources to deal with classroom sizes and complexity because our government failed to fund our public education system in a way where we could have these resources.

That's why this is happening. That's why Section 33 was invoked. Because they failed to prepare for this.

The Government of Alberta failed to plan decades ago for problems we're experiencing today. They didn't build out our education infrastructure. They didn't address division resources. They sat on it while they enjoyed their skyboxes.

This is going to get really bad really quickly. It's coming.

It all stems back to public school teachers across this province sounding alarm bells years ago for the government to restore funding. They didn't restore funding and now school boards are so tight with resources that this kind of an idea will make a bad situation even worse.

If there isn't a healthy substitute teacher pool then every school has a bigger mess to deal with. In the height of cold and flu season, some big schools could have multiple teachers out sick and that's before PD sessions and other activities like field trips where subs are needed to cover classes.

With the passing of Bill 2, we are on the precipice of probably one of the largest retirement waves in the history of the profession. Teachers who qualify to retire will pack it in this year. They won't think twice about it. Some who were thinking "2 more years" will decide that this is it for them.

So, we're establishing two problems with this proposal:
1.) Retiring teachers who have held a continuous contract most of their careers; and
2.) Retired teachers in the sub pool that will call it a career after this year.

This is a horrible inefficient idea that will make problems far, far worse.

If you take your subs and bring them into schools, how will you replenish your sub pool? How will you deal with the inevitable surge of retiring teachers at the end of this year as fallout from Bill 2 and use of Section 33?

This will require recruitment++ at an absolute minimum.

Second, this admin is right, many substitutes are retired teachers. They're good at coming into schools, doing their thing, and leaving at the end of the day. Strong classroom management and they're versatile and can go literally anywhere to cover for a day or two at a time. They're not permanent.

Me too. I know a lot of people think conservatives are invincible in Alberta but I think Dani is going through too much political capital to be able to stay afloat past 2027.

It's unsustainable.

There's a good chance this will happen. But unlike when Aberhart did it, things like the internet exists today and people can organize a lot more quickly and efficiently.

This would make it harder for the UCP to win re-election. There would be a lot of skepticism in places like Calgary in 2027.
Alberta's first MLA recall experiment spiked when Premier Aberhart targeted
Social Credit's recall law lasted 18 months on the books before it was repealed
