I don’t think JD Vance meant to be dismissive of British and French military support in Iraq and Afghanistan. He just didn’t pause before opening his mouth. The people round Trump think they’re the masters of the universe at the moment. I don’t imagine it’ll last.

Really good article including interviewing experts on what we can expect from measles (but shouldn't have to).

As the Texas outbreak grows, how contagious is measles, really?
Vaccination eliminated measles from the U.S. 25 years ago. But it can still spread in pockets where vaccination rates are low, like the west Texas county with a current outbreak. Here's how fast.

I am so sad about the government scrapping the Latin Excellence Programme mid-year. It was bringing Latin to a range of state schools (with considerable success, as I have witnessed). I am trying hard to resist the idea that it is ill-informed prejudice against the subject. tinyurl.com/5fjr9ywk

This is crummy treatment of students and teachers who have been working hard to pursue a subject that interests and excites them. I’m sorry the government feels that is something to discourage rather than reward. I hope there are ways to ameliorate the damage done today.

This was a day that reflected the current state of UK-Russian relations, i.e. very bad:
· UK diplomat expelled;
· Several UK cabinet ministers barred from Russia;
· Russian court accuses British citizen of taking part in “armed hostilities on the territory of Kursk region.”

@bsky.app please cease blanket labelling accounts with gender critical views as “intolerance” e.g. @naomicunningham.bsky.social …that is unless you plan to label pro-trans accounts in the same vein.
Debate is good; opinions and the ability to voice them important. Let’s all be adults and discuss.
