In 2021, @amnesty.org concluded that pushbacks were Greece's de facto border policy. Survivors' stories indicated that they were subsequently subjected to further violations, as their right to an individual assessment or the possibility to challenge their return were not granted.

The Court found that the applicant’s summary return to Türkiye, “without any prior assessment of the risks she faced […] and therefore of her application for international protection” violated her rights. The court also found the Greek authorities’ investigation was ineffective.
