Gotta agree here. It’s like saying “during AIDS.” HIV never went anywhere; it can cause serious illness - though thankfully it’s somewhat manageable now.
But referring to it, or COVID, in the past tense can downplay the risk and contribute to the common belief that the danger is over.

This is great news, but I can’t help but wonder if our provincial health authorities (I’m in BC) will once again throw up roadblocks to anyone who doesn’t fit their narrow definition of “deserving.” Fingers crossed but not holding my breath.
