Today we discovered Monkey Mountain, a county park on 855 acres with beautiful wooded hiking trails and bits of pastureland sprinkled throughout. All of it hardly used; we had the whole park to ourselves this evening as we explored one of the pastures.
A pasture is shown, with a couple of hay bales nearby. It’s nearing dusk, and the trees framing the pasture reflect an orange sunset just off frame. A trail is leading the viewer into the distance.

Butterflies weren’t the only ones enjoying the butterfly garden at the Dillon Nature Center today; there were also lots of Common Eastern Bumble Bees! The number of pollinators we saw doing their thing was simply delightful.

Monarch butterflies were everywhere in Hutchinson, Kansas this weekend! We visited the Dillon Nature Center earlier today and were delighted at how many we saw enjoying the butterfly garden.

I saw this little fella at the Hutchinson Zoo yesterday. A yellow-shouldered drone fly was busily pollinating this Lindheimer’s beeblossom.
A yellow-shouldered drone fly, named because it resembles a honeybee drone, is landed on a beautiful pink flower and is busily pollinating it. Pink flowers just like it dot the background throughout.

Free lawnmowers are my jam. They usually just require the carb to be cleaned or, in today’s case, the idle set screw to be adjusted. Now it just needs an oil change, a blade sharpening, and a good wash, and it’ll be ready to donate. :)
A red lawnmower that is a bit worn, but it has plenty of life left in it for someone who needs it.

My best friend gave me a Chipolo CARD Spot that he didn’t have any use for. I was surprised to find that it is not rechargeable—after its battery depletes, it simply becomes e-waste. I cracked it open to see what battery they’re using, and sure enough, it’s a (theoretically) rechargeable LiMnO2.

I’ve been lurking in the HVAC subreddits. Why do people consult ChatGPT when posting in a sub full of experts?
Original post shows a GIF of water leaking from an HVAC unit. The poster asks the following: “What is leaking here and how appproximately how expensive is it going to be to have repaired? Can I just turn those two yellow levers to shut off the water? Thanks!” The top reply says “Your actuator has shit the bed. Use yellow handle valves to shut off water” OP replies “Chatgpt is saying those are refrigerant lines and they wont stop the water?” The commenter replies “Guess who is wrong there”

My 11yo stepson got a Leapfrog talking globe for his birthday, and it doesn’t recognize Taiwan as a country. Even when I tap it with the stylus it says “People’s Republic of China” from the speaker.

That thing looks like a blast to ride! I also dig the Futurama references on the side. 😂

I’m a newer rider as well, having bought my PCX secondhand last spring. It’s ridiculously fun to ride. Fast off the line and light enough to whip around. I need to get a windscreen and top case for it soon.

Looks like you’ve got the second edition from 1989? My compact edition is a reprint of the first edition from 1933, with each page shrunk down so that there are four to a page. It came with a magnifying glass, hah!

Also, THE INFLATABLE CHRISTMAS GOOSE STILL STANDS. 🪿 I am victorious against nature!

This last time I had to clear out some space for the fan because it was completely covered in snow.
An inflatable Christmas goose stands outside on the front lawn, which is completely covered in a thick blanket of snow. It is night, but the goose is lit both by its internal LEDs as well as by the Christmas lights on the porch behind it that I have yet to remove.
