🦓 Living with Hypermobility Syndrome (HEDS)

I believe that everyone is equal & deserves love, sunsets are magic, & a good cup of coffee can make your day.
Love me a good Highland Cow! Also, these guys drink water the same way our Great Pyrenees does (mouth wide open), so maybe a distant relative?

While in the Northumberland region of England, we stayed at Langley Castle. We had a private villa, and we felt very fancy. Peacocks roamed the grounds!

Gonna be sappy for a moment, friends:

Today, my husband and I renewed our vows, in celebration of 20 years of marriage. A private ceremony: nothing official; just us, our girls, and our tour guide.

Location: Hadrian’s Wall, Hexham.

Weather was perfect. Setting was perfect. It was perfect.

Tried e-biking today for the first time! Sure, I had moments of terror (it’s been a long time since I’ve been on any bikes), but overall I loved it. And I sure did appreciate the assist for those uphills. #ChronicPain #Hypermobility

Keeping the big floofer cool when he has to go out. Stay cool, friends!

The sky was pure magic at the River Clyde tonight.

Today marks the start of chaos, basically, as we navigate a ton of commitments with reduced capacity. I needed this day of paddling and swimming yesterday. ❤️

New bling! Okay, no it’s not. These, friends, are finger splints, and they are to prevent my finger joints from hyperextending and causing me pain. Neat huh? #hypermobility

We've had our lab, Soleil, on chemo meds for almost 3 weeks. Today, I took her to the vet for an updated blood panel. Friends, her white blood cell count is normal! Vet said they've never seen a dog respond so positively to the meds this quickly. There is so much hope here! 💜

20 years ago, we decided to be all official and say "I do" to filing joint taxes.

As the world burns down around us, I honour the life we've created. I'm incredibly proud of us. We've been through some *very* hard times...and we still keep going. 💜 (And we haven't changed at all, wha'?)

Late to replying, but in case it brings a smile, please enjoy the image of my 135 lbs doggo trying to fit in a kiddie pool.

Our magnolia tree is in bloom! I love this tree & wish the flowers stayed longer…but there is a message of appreciation & cherishing things when they happen that I do adore. I also planted actual flower bulbs in my front yard and they bloomed! I live in a shady area so this is a pleasant surprise.

Now that we’ve broken the news to our girls, I can share that our lab, Soleil, has been diagnosed with cancer. It’s been a rough few weeks processing the news and waiting for test results. I’m happy to report that she has chronic leukaemia, not acute, which means it can be treated. 1/2

Feeling like a professional boxer today (not a terrible metaphor to enter the day with, truthfully). Physiotherapist is trying a new technique for pain relief, and (as always), I’m a willing guinea pig.
May 14, 2025 at 12:17 PM
New reading homework from physiotherapist. Part of the issue with hypermobile people is that we overextend without knowing, which can lead to delayed pain reaction (which is then hard to track, due to all the hyperextending). So I get to unlearn and learn how to move again. /1

Such a happy doggo! First swim of the season ✅

Dog meets hare.

(He almost met the family of raccoons camped out under our front step but he thankfully didn’t see them out scavenging for food.)

Biggest doggo just dogging it up, dog style.

My youngest turned 12 yesterday somehow (it’s a mystery how that happened), and she asked for a capybara cake. You know, something nice and easy 😂. Here’s what myself and my 17 year old managed to pull together:

How special! I look forward to seeing photos. Here’s our almost 10-year-old lab:

Been learning more about my medical condition, and, geez, my entire childhood makes sense. Learning is always good but it can be emotionally exhausting, too. I want to hug child me who was never believed by doctors (ditto teen me and young adult me and so on)…

Well here are my fools, and I hope they cause a smile. I call them my combo pack (small, medium, and large).

Served with spaghetti on the side. (There are meatballs inside of this cheesy goodness.)

Aren’t they gorgeous? #RumCake
