I got COVID almost two years ago, still experiencing the I'll effects of it, I don't want to get it again. No movies in theaters full of people not wearing masks for my family thanks.

I wonder how much LLMs are used to spread disinformation about climate solutions with the intent to reduce support for them and slow progress.

Encouraging more micro mobility is the right thing to do, I won't fault the city for that. Not building more and better infrastructure for micro mobility is definitely something we can fault the city, and really the province for.

That is certainly what gets me down. If we were seriously working on addressing the issue I would feel so much better than all the b.s. we get. Feels so hopeless when people in power are going the wrong way. I know lots of people are working on it, but those that call the shots mostly aren't.

and this is why we can't have nice things, for free :(

Public opinion is shaped by those who profit it of this.

I think I just saw some hail/snow? coming down when I took the dog out a few minutes ago. The thermometer says 4C.

I know Americans have some foods I don't recognize, but this seems a little more than I would have expected. Is this some kind of ai generated image?

Blue sky is a bubble thing is b.s. I don't hang out with a$$holes in real life, and I don't want to do it online either. This implies somehow that by not hanging out with a$$holes on twitter I am missing out on valuable perspectives. That is just b.s. and gas lighting.

I think the change messes people up either way. I know our dog is still waking us up at the same time despite going to bed an hour later. I get hungry and cranky when we are eating an hour later. Your body gets used to doing things at certain times then suddenly everything is off.

It seems to me that every fall when the clocks change, everyone's driving gets shitty.

It costs a lot to get ads into the eyeballs of people and who has the money to do that? That's why the counter movement is not getting there. We need ways to level the information environment.
November 5, 2025 at 4:08 PM
I don't know. One thing I have come to realize, is that there is a lot of money going on for advertising, PR, lobbying, and controlling media by groups with vested interest in the status quo. We need more media coverage and marketing for climate action. See: open.spotify.com/episode/4a8K...

I am not sure it is true that not enough Canadians care about climate change. I would say it is likely true that politicians don't think most Canadians care strongly about climate change. People aren't talking about it nearly enough. davidsuzuki.org/press/majori...

Yeah, that completely bothers me. Instead of having the regulations based clearly on the goal we want to achieve, they are now in some fuzzy price that may or may not get us there. We need assurance it will have the desired emissions reductions.
November 5, 2025 at 1:59 PM
Yeah, net zero by 2050 will be no good if we do it all in 2050. We need to globally half emissions by 2030. Or sooner, but we are pretty much out of sooner at this point.
November 5, 2025 at 1:58 PM
I was just recently listening to a podcast that basically said the opposite. Maybe "What if we get it right?". Though, in that case, they maybe talking more about the US. That article picks a particular region, and also comment that a reduction in production also occurred at the study time.
November 5, 2025 at 1:56 PM
Yeah, I agree. We need to reduce emissions. If we have a cap we have it written down with clearly stated goals about what is needed. If we just have a price, then our emissions targets (which are what matter) are now fuzzy. Will the carbon price achieve emissions targets, who knows, if the don't?
November 5, 2025 at 1:46 PM
Carbon capture and storage is not scalable or economical for Oil and Gas. They know this and have primarily used it as a green washing technique. We need to scale back oil and gas, they can't be made to be carbon neutral. Then there is the burning of their product.
November 5, 2025 at 1:43 PM
Partly I am concerned about cheating, they do that. Yeah the same cheats could well apply equally well in both cases. I am also worried though that the carbon price won't be high enough and they can just eat it, or if not it will be lowered to the point that they will.
November 5, 2025 at 1:40 PM
Yeah, I hope the carbon price does it, but I am not optimistic. Will it be high enough to significantly cut into profits? Will they be able to hide emissions? They will fight it, and now with the emissions cap gone, there is one less layer they need to remove to do what they want.
