Being here in Africa, with so many colleagues, community leaders, scientists, and advocates, feels more important than ever and the call to action has never felt more urgent. Looking forward to the conversations, connections and momentum we’ll build in the days ahead.

IAS 2025 has officially kicked off in Kigali. The opening session was very moving and powerful reminder of what’s at stake. Strong (mostly female) voices from across the HIV response, and a powerful community protest (“We will not be erased”) resonated deeply.

Our group was recognized as one of the “Best Research Environments of 2024” by @jungeakademie.bsky.social and Volkswagenstiftung. We didn’t get lucky in the raffle for the prize money but we’re proud of the recognition and even more proud of team Gaebler Lab that made it possible!🙏🎊👏🎉

Two weeks ago, we proudly showed the German Bundestag - this imperfect yet fundamental symbol of democracy - to friends from New York. I never could have imagined the scenes that unfolded there today. We (will) remember! 🇪🇺

Yesterday’s #TransDayOfRemembrance event at Charité and BIH, organized by our PhD student Tomer Einav, was a moving tribute to lives lost and a hopeful call for progress in trans* rights and healthcare.
