I don’t know who needs to hear this but fascism often begins with the slow erosion of civil liberties and the rise of authoritarianism under the guise of ‘security measures’.

If you think what happened to Rumeysa Ozturk can't happen to you because you're a citizen and she's not, you are sorely mistaken. Ozturk was snatched off the street not for being a national security threat but for having a wrong opinion. If we don't put a stop to this, it's coming for all of us.

Was Pete Hegseth drunk when he added a journalist to a group chat where Trump officials were discussing Top-secret plans for upcoming attacks on the Houthis?

The Senate Armed Services Committee should immediately call him to testify at a hearing on the matter.

I know I’m not a fancy political strategist but I’ve just got this slight feeling that “look at what hypocrites Republicans are on trade policy” might not be as effective a message to the average voter as “your kids might die because Donald Trump thinks it’s okay to feed cows chicken shit”

Research universities are often the largest employers in their region. They are often the primary health care providers to communities. This funding shift will not only reduce US research leadership, it will put working people out of work and reduce healthcare access.
Excellent 🧵 on this evening's NIH announcement of a dramatic reduction in indirect rates for research institutions, which amounts to a generational restructuring of the US research and development ecosystem. These cuts are effective immediately, not just for new grants but for existing ones.
6. The policy does not just affect funding going forward. All existing NIH grants will have their indirect rates cut to 15% as of today, the date of issuance.

For a large university, this creates a sudden and catastrophic shortfall of hundreds of millions of dollars against already budgeted funds.

There's something so pernicious about the assertion that not-yet-teen girls should be forced into motherhood, and that Black children can be tried as adults, and yet that white men who are 25 should be coddled because they're just babies (who really like eugenics).
