I dare you to find a sweeter, more amazing set of grad students than the ones I have the privilege of mentoring!

Even without such thoughtful gifts, I know I'm definitely the lucky one ❤️

Incredibly grateful to SoM and the NWC for the wonderful hospitality the past few days! I loved visiting, giving a seminar, and meeting with so many folks. The great conversations have given me so many more ideas that I can't wait to pursue!

Y'know what the biggest gut punch is of all of this asinine cutting in government funding for science? Trying to figure out what the hell im gonna tell my kids. Especially the one who has dreamed of a job at NASA. What will happen to his hopes and dreams?

Beyond proud to see my very first PhD student (and was one of my first MS students) graduate today! It has been a very long and winding journey for him, but he has been a delight to mentor over the past several years.

Congrats Dr. Matt Gropp! Wonderfully fitting to have severe storms in the area :)

Beyond honored to have been awarded the Bonnie Cone Early Career Professorship in Teaching! My name may be on the plaque but it is dedicated to all who have mentored, taught, and supported me along the way. I can only hope to live up to Bonnie's reputation of excellence and advocacy.

Two key conclusions:

1) The biggest "leap" occurs somewhere in the middle of the program when students start taking multiple meteorology courses (see
2) The skill of identifying spatial patterns from complex maps ("disembedding") continually improves, but is also the weakest skill

UCAR and NSF NCAR join the ranks of other government-funded entities in closing their DEI offices.

An expected but still awful event that will only hurt the atmospheric sciences and future innovation that widely benefits society.

On Thursday I have 2 talks (given virtually), one on using collaborative quizzes and exams in Atmospheric Dynamics, and other on the REMUS REU!

Would love to connect with folks on any or all of these topics 😎🤓
