There's a line from a spoken word poem I'm obsessed with, that keeps running through my head this week:

"...you can’t be this afraid of losing everything
If you don’t love everything first.
Because you have to have
a soul-crushing hope
that things will get better
To be this afraid of missing it."

If I had magic powers, the first things I would do would be to make my skin never be dry or itchy ever again, and my hair would always be immediately amazing and exactly what I want.

There'd be a lot of other stuff I'd do as soon as that was sorted, but man I'd get so much more accomplished...

Over the course of the next month I have to finish a chapter of my dissertation, fly to California to officiate my best friend's wedding, and prepare/present a guest lecture for a queer studies class on Care and Crisis. (And do my day job.)

At some point one wonders if one is stretched too thin...

Please feel most free to read my first, very seasonal and topical, Substack post. The link to my Substack is in my bio, which feels like a supremely douchey thing to say but is none the less true! Enjoy! Share with friends (or foes, whatever)

Whoever it is Disney has writing for these damn Zombies movies, I want some of whatever that guy is on. Never in all of my days have I read a series of plot summaries more simplistic but somehow impossibly convoluted at the same time. I am baffled, confused, and moderately distressed, I won't lie.

If you ever read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn in school, you NEED to read this graphic novel. The storytelling is amazing, the art is stunning, the history is accurate, and it should, in my humble opinion, be required reading along with Huck Finn.

Whoever is responsible for romanticizing Southern Summers needs to answer for their crimes. I'm covered in pricker bush scratches, bug bites, and sunburn. Southern Summers are not romantic, they are a sweaty swamp, and I will never understand anyone who says otherwise.

Finally watched Sinners last night and now that's gonna be a problem for everyone around me because I do NOT intend to shut up about it. So y'all can look forward to THAT for a while...

Here's the thing. I'm grown. I live with my partner, I pay my bills, I have a whole job, and I'm working on an advanced degree.

There is nobody. And I do mean nobody. I'd rather have take me to a medical procedure than my mama. That lady is ALWAYS my #1 choice. Bar none.

Y'all I am about sick to gd death of living through "interesting times." Sick to my back fkn teeth of it.

My favorite part about both Mamma Mia movies is that absolutely none of the male leads have literally any business singing OR dancing, but here they are doing it with glee and aplomb. More of this, please.

Please understand that Bird's Nest Roy is my new favorite character in Disco Elysium, because the idea of a storybook character/place being an ontological necessity is exactly the kind of absurdist academia humor I show up to the party for.

My job really do just be putting us in situations sometimes. Absolutely bat shit situations, but like, hey! It's a living! (Sort of)

In some incredibly Southern™️ nonsense, I went to a new doctor this morning (because my body remains a train wreck), and the receptionist is my boyfriend's best friend's twin brother's girlfriend.

Heading out to Big Lick ComicCon NOVA today to make some noise about my dissertation study. Stay amazing!

I don't know if there is a more appropriate goodbye to Loretta Swit, than her last scene in MASH in the series finale.

Loretta won two Emmy's for her role as Major Houlihan.

People keep acting like generative AI is inevitable, but y'all... I actually don't even know how to access ChatGPT, and at this point I don't want anyone to tell me. Is it an app? A website? Don't answer these questions, but please: do not think it MUST exist. That is a lie.

It definitely took some doing there towards the end, but I have completed the Edward Gorey's Dracula in Dr. Seward's Library black & white puzzle. Please feel free to continue to leave me in relative peace, I sent in a job application earlier today that I worked on for hours.

Today at a baby shower for someone at work, I accidentally ended up on a tangent about how, from an objective perspective, the plot of the Disney version of Pinocchio is absolutely batshit insane, and it is a testament to the force of my personality that nobody seemed to find that weird of me...

I really thought I was having a full blown menty b because I was so gd fatigued I could barely function. Turns out actually somehow AFTER getting an iron infusion, my iron levels have tanked further, so that's causing the fatigue...

...now, to be fair, finding THAT out may cause that menty b anyway

Despite the sheer, unfettered chaos and exhaustion that was this last week, I had a truly delightful time at @pcaaca.bsky.social and am so grateful for the experience, as always. 💚🩵🩷💛

Explaining to an Uber driver in New Orleans that I live in a state where liquor purchases must happen at a state-run liquor store that's closed on Sundays was probably one of the funnier experiences of my life to date. He was flabbergasted.
