When this second charge ignites, it blows apart the shell and sets off small pellets made of unique metallic compounds, each producing a different colour as they burn.

Appropriately, these pellets are called stars ✨

With the firework on the rise, a secondary fuse keeps the heat moving up through the system towards the second explosive, the burst charge, nestled within the firework itself. 💣

A small hole at the bottom allows the pent-up energy to escape, sending the system skyward. 🚀

The first charge, situated at the bottom of the system, is called the lift charge. Introducing a flame or other heat source causes the black powder to react, creating a lot of hot gas and energy in a confined space. 💥
