I just realized why I’ve been more confused than usual at work this week, thanks to this incredible UX decision by Microsoft. Perfect way to handle daylight savings into Outlook, no notes.
Outlook calendar trying real hard to take daylight savings into account, but it somehow decided to display it as if all day Sunday was in a different time zone.

I work in higher ed IT and this was in the newsletter about new student orientation swag and OH NO
...our trendy give-a-way this year pulls in the gaming aspect of work and play with a [school] branded D20 (dice - Think Game of Thrones) and business card slogan – "Roll with [IT] - a Nat 20 every time"!

On an excursion this weekend, saw a lot of Art and this is my favorite piece, called Teaching a Cow How to Draw.

Lives and works in Los Angeles Teaching a Cow How to Draw 2020 Cedar wood When conceptual artist Analia Saban first visited the Clark, she was struck by the cows who pastured in its meadows. Could the fence that contained the animals also entertain, or even educate them? Saban reinterpreted the existing split rail fence to illustrate different principles of artistic composition, such as the rule of thirds and golden ratio- which are said to produce pleasing pictures-as well as two- and three point linear perspective. This 620-foot-long drawing in space is both a tongue-i cheek gesture, implicating a new, nontraditional audience outside the museum's walls, as well as a device that frames new views on the landscape for its human visitors. The fence is an homage to Saban's mentor, the late John Baldessari (1931-2020), and his 1972 video Teaching a Plant the Alphabet, in which the artist offered an English lesson to a potted banana plant. It’s not even a pleasant place to shop! I went to Target for the first time in months recently out of curiosity and everything was either locked up or a mess. (The women’s clothing section was a DISASTER.) No one working on the floor and only one cashier.

Went to see the O’Keefe/Moore show at the MFA and got emotional about sculpture. Bowled over by seeing the hand of the artist in this shoulder blade.
Henry Moore British, 1898-1986 Reclining Figure, 1959-1964 Elmwood Pay close attention to this large piece and notice how its form follows the grain of the wood, varying from smooth to rough. Its rings imply tension at the shoulder, and its hollows and openings almost become a landscape. Moore was deeply inspired by the form and heft of chac-mool statues-a type of pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican stone sculpture that was typically placed outside temples and featured reclining figures supporting themselves on their elbows, with knees bent. He revisited the motif of the reclining figure countless times throughout his career, experimenting with different materials, scales, and degrees of abstraction. Same piece but from the side, showing the shoulder and back. There are grooves from the chisel visible.

Members of the conservative paper literally went after the anti-apartheid camp on the Green with sledgehammers in the middle of the night! The Trustees ended up divesting from South African companies by the end of the year.

Apartheid Protests (1986) Another moment of massive student activism occurred in 1985. Protesting the living conditions of black South Africans under Apartheid and Dartmouth's ongoing investments in South Africa, Dartmouth students erected four 'shanties' on the Green. The shanties stood until February of 1986, when members of The Dartmouth Review destroyed them with sledgehammers. This incited further protests and a Parkhurst Hall takeover in order to force the Board of Trustees to meet with the 100 protesters. Heeten Kalan '92, a participant in the Apartheid protests, commented on the intensity of the meeting. "[The meeting] was incredibly emotional," he said. "There was a Native American student who said that if my student is based on blood money, you should take my scholarship away. There were trustees in tears." By the end of the calendar year, the Board decided to end their investments in South Africa.
