Great news: Dublin’s newest park is finally happening! Work starts next week on Portobello Harbour Park. After 7 years of me pushing, getting funding, losing and basically harassing DCC @ meetings, it’s happening. The community’s patience paid off. In a year we’ll be celebrating a brand new park! 🍾

Car insurance costs are up 9%, yet profits are down.

The way we have set up insurance in Ireland is mad, leading to high legal costs and inconsistent payouts. It leaves consumers paying way over the odds.

Time for some reforming zeal from government!

We're told one of these land uses is 'productive', while the other is not.

But in terms of photosynthetic levels, as well as the production of clean air, water, no flooding, a stable climate, etc, etc, the natural ecosystem wins hands down.

As for biodiversity, let's not even go there.

The UN says we’re far off track on climate goals. Dublin’s recent Special Climate Meeting was a mess — no agenda, dropped presentations, lost momentum. Climate action is sliding off the agenda. The @greenparty_ie remain the only ones putting climate and our future first.

Over a yr since work stopped on ‘Camden Yard’. The Council needs to urge the Housing Minister to buy the site for much-needed city-centre housing. dream of 100's of homes - proper mix of private, social and cost-rental, instead of build-to-let.
No response from the Minister.

Make space for bicycles on regional bus, says campainers
All regional buses should have spaces for bicycles, according to the Irish Cycling Campaign, a national umbrella group for most cycling campaigns. Bicycles are carried on most intercity buses in Ireland, both public and private, but more recent inter-urban regional buses, which were purchased by the National Transport Authority (NTA) for public service routes, have no bicycle storage. Responding to an NTA examining the requirments of new regional buses, the Irish Cycling Campaign said it has a preference for bicycle storage in "areas within the bus for bicycles with fold up/down seats" so, it says " the space is not wasted if there are no bikes, and a bike can be rolled on and off the bus easily, similar to wheelchairs.

🚻 New public toilets are now open at Marina Park. A great step forward for Cork! I tabled a motion last September to make this a priority, so it’s brilliant to see it delivered. Thanks to Cork City Council. Proud to see progress, but we're not done yet. Let’s keep pushing for more! Up Cork!

Council wants to know what users think of Grange to Tramore Valley urban greenway route
Cork City Council are seeking the views of users of the Grange to Tramore Valley Way and Vernon Mount Bridge. The route, which was opened in November 2023, is a 1km-long shared pedestrian and cycle path that features a dedicated pedestrian and cycling bridge over the South Ring Road dual carriageway. It links suburbs south of the major road to the Tramore Valley Park, located just north of the road.
