There are beautiful metaphors in murmurations. Perhaps everyone else already knew this, but I loved learning recently that each starling monitors only the movements of the 7 birds immediately around it. That’s all we need to do to build gorgeous, mobile, protective solidarity.
Murmurations of birds near #DavisCA. I recorded for like 20 minutes. This is a selection of some of the best bits. It was stunning. Awe insirpingly stunning. #Birds

I have a strong suspicion that the geologists of Iceland are in a secret competition with each other about who wears the best woollen sweater in interviews.

(Here Kristín is saying that the eruption is still going strong and more magma is accumulating underneath.)

I was lucky enough to read an early version and I highly recommend @josephcox.bsky.social’s new book Dark Wire.

He’s managed to pull off a total thriller about the usually nerdy world of encryption👇🏼
It's finally here—my book on how the FBI secretly ran its own tech startup to wiretap the world. DARK WIRE reveals its true scale & stakes for the first time

A few days ago I met a pal, an OB-GYN who is working at a service that sends abortion pills (mifepristone and misoprostol) to women who need them in states that ban abortion. She asked me to help spread the word about how to use the service, and asked me to ask you guys to pass on the info. 1/6
