Right then...

A quick review of the DOE's new 'critical review' of climate science. Whether it's worth a formal community response - I'm still not sure, but here's my first thoughts

Atmospheric Rivers: Processes, Impacts, Observations, and Uncertainties
Atmospheric rivers (ARs) comprise filaments of intense water vapor transport in the lower troposphere that are essential to the global hydrological cycle. ARs operate within a broader dynamical enviro...

In today’s climate, #atmosphericrivers play a major role in bringing snowfall to #Antarctica. Have you ever wondered how that might change in the future?

Out today, our new study on the future frequency and precipitation impacts of Antarctic atmospheric rivers:
www.nature.com/articles/s43...
Rising atmospheric moisture escalates the future impact of atmospheric rivers in the Antarctic climate system - Communications Earth & Environment
Antarctic atmospheric rivers are projected to double in frequency and cause 2.5 times more precipitation by 2066–2100 due to rising atmospheric moisture, according to large ensemble climate simulation...

Such an energizing day standing up for science… Huge shout out to the AGU Policy team for making it happen!
That’s a wrap on AGU’s Local Science Partners Congressional Visits Day! Today, scientists like Christine Shields (@catswx.bsky.social) met with members of Congress to advocate for strong science funding and evidence-based policy.

Here’s a quick recap of the day:🧵⬇️

Even though the U.S. was a bit chilly this January, it was the anomaly compared to most of the globe. Check out the impartial data: www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/global-.... #Climate
Assessing the Global Climate in January 2025
January temperature marks a new global milestone. Temperatures were above average over much of the globe, but much below average over the United States, Greenland, and far eastern Russia.

Lots of adaptation $$ will be needed soon, and there won’t be enough for everything: “the cost of maintaining roads in just the US will increase by $100 billion a year by 2050 (in 2018 dollars), or roughly half of what state and local governments spent on roads in 2021.”
Around 10 years ago I almost died because a road not built with climate change in mind was so wrecked it damaged the bus I was on. I knew that I would eventually write a story about how climate change is wrecking roads, and endangering lives. This is me trying to explain that. Gift lift.
These Roads Aren’t Built for Wilder Weather Driven by Climate Change
Important motorways across the world weren’t designed to withstand more extreme temperatures and rainfall.
