Saw my rheumatologist yesterday, and she said the latest strain of COVID is fucking up people's liver function. People get COVID, a few weeks later, their liver enzymes are elevated. She wants me to tell her if I get COVID so she can order lab work afterward. (Thankfully, I wear FloMask everywhere.)
I teach all of my classes in an N95 because my gift from having COVID (pre-vaccine) is an autoimmune disease that destroys my kidney function. COVID gave me kidney failure, which will require a kidney transplant. What's the #1 cause of death (aside from CKD) in patients waiting for dialysis? COVID.
(and i think it is a demand that stems from fear more than a rational assessment of the threat environment)

Treat yo self: COVID edition=new respirator.
If you are tired of going through disposables, I cannot recommend Flomask enough. Great fit (with sizing tips), notch for glasses to sit, and no steamed up lens. Profilters are good for 40 hours and FFP2/N95. Now available in Europe!

I already have one debilitating, incurable disease. I don't want another and fuck only knows what the two together would do.
Luckily, I have a FloMask and I never go anywhere without it.
Most people regard wearing a respirator mask in all public spaces during the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 as "unreasonable," but I regard wearing a respirator mask as a completely reasonable means of avoiding the irreparable harm that results from every infection of Covid-19.

like... i didn't have the heart to respond, saying it was because i was healthy and wanted to stay healthy. i can't save her from her media environment. i really wish i could.

A Google software engineer won his battle against MetLife to receive disability benefits for Long Covid.

This is huge

Long Covid has a lot of stigma attached to it and it can be hard to get disability.

You’re told to “try harder”.

It’s “not that bad”.

You can “still work”.

Not everyone can

They’re demanding the company honour workers rights to unionize, improve environmental sustainability and raise wages.

This is the biggest disruption in the company’s history.

We need new books and new-book shops. We need to fund the creation of new works that add joy and interest and interpretation to our lives.

But we also need the beautiful, the old, the strange, the different, and the already-loved and affordable.

There's a shop for that 📚❤️

Respect Alice Wong’s call here:

For the Disability community, losing Alice Wong is like losing Ursula Le Guin or Octavia Butler. She was a powerhouse, a pioneer, and a mentor to many. She taught me so much. And always reminded me what we were fighting towards, as well as against. I miss her clarity, bravery, and joy.
