It strikes me as bold to present readers with a transcript. And yet it seems there are droves of readers all set to hoover this up.

That all the coverage of the book - interviews and features and extracts - appeared before the media embargo on reviews was lifted is quite revealing.

My guess is that pre-orders alone would cause a crisis in remand centres. Several massive events associated with the book sold out weeks ago…

Not paying artists fees and taking a big commission and making artists shoulder operational costs - terrible. i hope they get lots of blowback

i will probably write about it. For now I would point to the preponderance of kids books, YA, and adult fiction that is actually YA (ie lessons in chemistry)

Sure, but as someone who cares about Ozlit in its many weird forms I find the concentration of utterly mediocre books on this list extremely disheartening

But then there is novel after novel after novel marketed to adult readers that is actually infantilising rubbish. Children’s books for adults, facile, moralising books. I know these lists are all about clicks and the conversation but JFC this one strikes me as particularly dire.

So much of this list is feelgood schmaltz written for children. I mean, Where is the Green Sheep? is a beautiful book and I loved reading it to my kids when they were toddlers. There it is at number 76 on the list. Fine, an actual book for children that has been a mainstay of many bedtimes.
