I think Miriam Margolyes summed it up succinctly on Graham Norton last night: ‘just read a f**king book!’

I love this post for 2 reasons: first, because only last year I started keeping a list of books I’ve finished. Second, because I also read To the Lighthouse at the age of 26 and this week took it off the shelf for a reread…21 years later. Am ready for the semi-colon pile-on ;)

This season has most definitively jumped the shark.

Had no idea it was based on short stories! Must seek out. The set in this photo is stunning.

Surely a (neglected) writer’s saleability is not the point? There is a strange inverted snobbishness here.

Unlimited reading time is definitely the thing I miss most since having kids.

Yes, it really has it all! And there were several times where a sentence actually took my breath away.

I read Mrs Palfrey this summer and so far it is easily my book of the year.

It’s a brilliant episode- and Andy states that it’s his favourite book to date up to that point on the podcast!

I would totally agree with this! Lovely to hear of another fan 🙂 And as Irish novels about the Troubles go I don’t think there is one to surpass it.

A Goat’s Song is in my view the most underrated Irish novel that has ever been published. Dermot Healy is not a household name in Ireland and it is such a shame. A sublime read.

Plus the album cover…it’s my favourite. Something about it really captures the zeitgeist.

Oh I couldn’t agree more!! I watched my grandfather read 3 library books per week, never a book out of his hand. And in the age of phone addiction it is vital that my teens see me read- it models a beautiful alternative to scrolling even if they’re not ready to embrace it fully yet.

Loving this!

Good Jesus! I’m really enjoying the rightwing indignation - both from Ireland and Britain. Great to see that in spite of the press CC is more than likely to win.
