Costco truly tries to do good. I have a physics prof friend who got so burned out he quit teaching. His wife insisted he get a job, any job, so he went to Costco. That was two years ago. He loves the job and the company. He's healthier than he's been in decades and his marriage has been rejuvenated.

Keep your sense of humor. One of the things that got the British through the Second World War was the constant lampooning of Hitler. ' Hitler has only got one ball. The other is in the Albert Hall.' is an example. If it worked for them in the Blitz it will work for us now.
Find myself at a peculiar nexus; a turning point, with regards to American politics & the state of the world. Over the years, always relied on humor to find a silver lining, when things looked grim. Laugh it off, things will be better in the morning. No longer feel that, given current circumstances.

10 weeks since my beautiful, sweet, weird little girl suddenly left me. I think I'm over the grief but then the smallest thing will trigger the memories and sadness.

I'm conflicted about this. Sure these are THE most iconic shoes in movie history. But $23 Million could put shoes on about a million and a half barefoot people.

English Lit has been an underpinning of liberal democracies in Western countries. There is a relationship between the decline of both.

The fall of English Literature
On the edges of the City of London, a couple of miles from where I grew up, there’s a very famous cemetery: Bunhill Fields. When I was growing up, it was pretty clear who the three most famous tombs b...

This piece on anger is worth the 5 minutes of reading. It helps define the difference between constructive and destructive anger - an issue I have been struggling with.
Anger (at least initially) is an almost involuntary response; it’s an emotional alarm telling you something is not right.

And if you’re a person with working empathy and you’re at all paying attention right now, you know there’s a lot that isn’t right.

Don't Avoid Your Anger, Honor It
Many people will tell you that you shouldn’t be as angry as you are lately.

How come we don't use the word trollop anymore? Trollop is a great word. And you can get some real emotional heft when you spit out "you TRRROLop you!"

All I can say is thank God for dogs and basketball. If they weren't keeping me calm and grounded I know I would go full on Thelma and Louise.
