The latest installment in my Natural Dye Chronicles series is a short & sweet little ditty, a soliloquy on the fleeting nature of color. Hope you enjoy!

I took a break from simmering yarns this week to prepare some natural inks for an upcoming workshop. Distilling color from food scraps never gets old 🙃

Whelp I’ve managed to go further down the rabbit hole of woad in ancient Britain. 🙃 At the risk of putting a target on my back, I’ve plunged deep into the debate over the Picts and their alleged woad body art.

It’s energizing to witness how #fiberart continually brings people together in service of the bigger picture. What is it about fiber art that leads to this collaborative spirit? History? Women? I’m fairly new to this “genre” of art and let me tell you I can’t get enough of y’all’s good vibes 💛🧶

I’m very excited for this Friday’s opening at Alto Gallery, featuring work from myself and the other four artists in last year’s Land Line Artist Residency with Denver Botanic Gardens. If you live near Denver, stop by—it’s going to be a great show!

Fantastic turnout for my local #teslatakedown protest today! Thanks to the stranger who handed me an American flag on my way in: true patriotism is standing up against what’s happening to our country right now. Fascism has no place here.

“I didn’t expect to be threatened with arrest if I refused to leave. (…) That was the moment I realized the symbolic and political power of a needle and thread — how an act as simple as embroidery can become a form of resistance, protest, and struggle.”

More of this, please! ✊🏼💪🏼🙌🏼

Today’s prompt is “pattern.” Here’s a snippet of a sneaky pattern in black ink on black paper that I snuck into this silkscreened print of my coffee plant drawing. (Along with the stippled original) 🙃

I’m hoping natural dyes count for today’s #makersmARTch prompt, “stain”!? Wool yarns dyed with indigo, weld, madder & cutch make up the palette for my new punch needle piece 🙃

Fun fact for today’s #makersmARTch prompt “draw”— I started my art career by drawing on people’s walls! Chalk art is what brought me to my creative calling, & was my jam for years. I don’t do much of that anymore, but my love of plants is still going strong. 🌿

Today’s #MakersmARTch prompt is “ink”. In addition to working with natural dyes & writing about them, I also draw them! This is a stippled pen & ink drawing of madder from a few years back; white ink on black paper, 22”x30”

Just called my senators! Took less than 3 minutes to leave a message with both of them ✌🏼
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

A beautiful reminder as we sit down to work, that it’s not just about finding solace and distraction in dark times. We also have the opportunity (duty?) to keep these long-spun threads of resistance alive.

Creativity thrives at the edge of chaos, shaping resistance in ways words can’t. Fiber arts weave rebellion into every stitch, challenging norms and telling untold stories. What we create isn’t just beautiful—it’s powerful, defiant, and deeply human.
