It would be nice to get some work done on campus that doesn’t involve paper-pushing or sitting in meetings. I have about 65 assignments to grade. Instead, I’m doing paperwork and saving it in 4 places so other entities can see I am, indeed, doing my job. Gotta feed Big Brother.

I have students who want to talk politics in the classroom before class starts. I have sour-faced students who can’t deal with criticism of the Neon God They Made. I end up having to stick to facts: A good number of the exec orders are unconstitutional or otherwise illegal. They challenge me. (1/2)

My keurig died on Saturday. The pump just clicks. Waiting on the new one to arrive. Making due with Folger’s instant leftover from the hurricane. It took sugar-free flavor syrup, heavy cream, and Splenda to make it almost palatable.

12:30 am. 38 degrees outside. 66 degrees inside and I’m not cold. Not even my feet. In fact, I had to turn on the ceiling fan because I’m hot and can’t sleep. This is as it should be. Even the 2 cats who sleep under the covers are warm enough to half stretch out under the fan.

The new windows are great. The heat pump didn’t kick on until about 9pm. I can’t feel cold radiating off the windows. I can’t hear cars drive by or the thumping of people’s car stereos. My house is almost hermetically sealed. My fortress of solitude has been restored.

I have new windows!!!! It is only 49 degrees outside. My HVAC has not run in 4 hours and it’s not cold in here. I also get the energy efficiency tax credit for these windows.

My illogical behavior, 126,942: Cleaning the house thoroughly because contractors are coming to make a mess tomorrow🤔🤨🤔🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. (New windows being installed. I don’t have to be cold or hear wind whistling anymore 😃😃😃).

Most people have never seen me truly pissed off. I walk away and cool down before I say stuff I might regret. After thinking, if I decide I won’t regret saying that stuff, it’s not pretty. But I won’t let someone else’s dumpster fire burn me. Never again. Lessons learned over the last decade.

Love standing in my driveway, dropping a couple bags of dollar store dishes on the ground to break them as my neighbors look at me like I’m nuts. Not crazy. Just an archaeology professor creating a learning exercise.

My mom is in the hospital. She had a heart episode this morning. Step-dad said she seems ok, but she’s in ICU for observation at least overnight tonight. Big pharma canceled free acres to her heart meds and Medicare supplemental denied coverage of it. They are seeking alternatives.

Had a former student drop by my office. He spent 8 years in the military and has decided to get his teaching certificate. He told me he wouldn’t be where he is without me. Eight years ago, he was suicidal because his family terrorized him when he came out. He said I saved him & he loves me for it.

My body is weird. When I’m tired, I get cold, sleepy, and grumpy or emotional. When I’m hungry, I get cold, sleepy, and grumpy or emotional. I never know if I need to eat, sleep, or both. And I’m so cold tonight, everything hurts. Going to have a snack and go to bed.

If you have not seen The Substance, you must see it. It’s body horror and some big time gore. But, this is the first horror movie I’ve watched in years that still has me thinking hours later. And Demi Moore gave the performance of her life. She was amazing.

The weather is awful
by Augusta standards. Local forecast says we will get up 2” more of combined ice and snow by 4am Saturday. We’re stuck in the 30 to 33 degrees range. Fingers crossed that power stays on.

Wintry mix in Augusta. Mostly sleet with some ice, snow, and rain. Love when chunks of slush fall from the sky. I’m home and I’m staying home. Got my cats, coffee, a good book, blankets, and, for now, power.

Just got back from running an errand. I wore my ski jacket. It’s 33 degrees. People in hoodies, a knit skully, shorts, and flip-flops looked at me funny. Y’all in the Deep South wouldn’t be so damn cold in true winter weather if you would just put on some pants, shoes, and wear a coat.
