that's why I'm spending a lot of effort bringing Jugendstil ornaments to my landing page (disabled now, it's super hard) :)

for now, it has water, starfish and dragonflies.

this stuff matters. it connects you to the beauty of life.

to be fair, that was the job description. we know this since 2016.

First time for me to see these little marvels :D

Genus Kapala I think, Family Eucharitidae (Chalcidoidea)

I think they're ant parasitoids? Not sure what about the sculpture on their back!

once you develop an eye for it, they're *everywhere* on some slopes!

today I learned to fish for trapdoor spiders :D

what you do is gently open the lid, stick a straw deep into the burrow. they bite on it. when you pull it out quickly, they're attached to it :P

once out they just sit there. they don't have a program for this situation it seems :)

I feel bad for people denying #evolution for the sake of old stories in a book.

you're missing out! this is the miracle of life! it's real!!

you don't need an imaginary daddy in the sky.

yeah, reality is intimidating in its greatness.

have courage. embrace the universe as it is.

it's beautiful.

I tried to have #gemini remove #moiré from a photograph…

it totally could not do it (middle image is the third attempt).

then I told it to imagine it was there at the same moment with a camera, and take a photo from the same location. result is the third image :D

I had no idea this beautiful freak existed :D

They mimic thorny fruit, and catch moths using pheromones.

I'm currently listening to a super interesting deep dive on George W. Carver, who I had not really known before:
- born a slave
- agricultural science genius
- was supported by the people who bought his parents, who were not actually slavery supporters

This is what Kirk was fighting against.

I'd like to create a calendar etc. from CL Koch's thousands of arachnid drawings :) the right one is a cleaned up version from Gemini. seems like it's finally feasible to clean them up without losing fidelity? I think I'll wait until it can be turned into a perfect svg…

I have hummingbirds, but no idea how to make them into a pun :P

I'm looking at two copies of CL Koch's 1848 tome 14 of "Die Arachniden. If it's not a digitization artifact, the colorizers seem to have had quite some leeway in which colors to use??
