"This assault on higher education is best understood as a means of destroying a locus of political opposition."
Over the last 10 months, the federal government has cracked down on political expression with a persistence and viciousness reminiscent of some of the darkest periods of U.S. history. Welcome to the Third Red Scare.

"We adjourned when Trump wanted us to adjourn and we come back whenever Trump gives the okay, or the directive, to come back and what we consider is what his agenda is,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA). Congress is “blatantly subjugating itself to executive authority.”

State Legislatures Can Push Back Against Citizens United
State lawmakers can fight the influence of big money in politics by passing trigger laws that would go into effect if the Supreme Court’s misguided ruling is reversed.

Light pollution is no small thing. And it's not just about whether you can see the aurora borealis or the stars.
Science has shown that artificial light at night has negative and deadly effects on many creatures, including amphibians, birds, mammals, insects, and plants.

Deadly effects on these creatures and plants means deadly effects on humans too.

Are you telling me that we *already* have two "missing tape" stories *this week* when all of Watergate only had one?!
An interesting tidbit in the joint status report filed in the Broadview ICE facility case today:

ICE says video from inside the facility "between October 19, 2025, and October 31, 2025, has been irretrievably destroyed" and can't be produced in discovery.

What you say when someone says a false “X” is simply “Y is true.”

You ignore the X. Bc if you engage directly w the X, what the average person often remembers is “wasn’t there some debate abt X vs Y?” not “I was told it was Y, not X.”

Even if it were true, "taking jobs from Americans" is not a criminal offense that calls for committing human right abuses against said person and potentially renditioning them to third countries with poor human rights records

"This person is undocumented" does not mean "this person has ZERO rights"
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

Does this surprise anyone? As a society, we established the legal age of consent because lots of creepy old men want to have sex with pubescent girls. It’s gross and damaging, so we’ve made it criminal. But, there’s always that one guy (or gal) who wants to argue b/c g-g-grandma got married at 13.

See my recent @lawfaremedia.org piece on indictment of a purported Texas "antifa cell" and how these terrorism statutes work. Rubio's actions mean that anyone who provides "material support"—defined *very* broadly—to these foreign groups has committed a felony.
www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what...
Rubio is working on legal grounds to persecute antifa. Four foreign groups are now Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) and they hope to designate them FTOs. Only one is actually an antifascist group: Hungary has previously focused on Antifa Ost (Hammerbande).

He's taking a military home during a supply shortfall, while our ED, Jose Vasquez, notes that "service members are lining up at food banks."

This is a choice. And it's wrong.
