Sadly, KATU takes a 10 or 15-minute break every four hours, and that time is now. I was really glued to the plight of these frogs. They’re multiplying.
October 10, 2025 at 3:04 AM
What happened to this one frog?

The right-wing influencers keep saying it’s crazier at night outside the Portland ICE facility and, well, chants of “frog! Frog! Frog!” have indeed broken out tonight.

Evening report: Agents are on the building. The crowd is small. Jack the chicken protester is there. And a man is talking in the background about Nazi Germany.
October 10, 2025 at 12:44 AM
It's lunchtime, and the crowd has grown has a little bit.

An update on the scene outside the Portland ICE facility.
October 9, 2025 at 8:01 PM
Right now, the 9th Circuit is considering whether to allow troops to deploy to Portland's ICE facility. At this moment, looks like there are only Know Your Rights and a clergyperson outside.
October 9, 2025 at 4:00 PM
A few more scenes from this morning.

At 1 a.m., they reported there were only five people there, one of whom was picking up trash. Otherwise, so quiet this reporter looks bored.

A judge in Massachusetts today issued what I think is the first judgment against the DOJ's attempt to subpoena doctors who treat trans patients. The judge quashed the subpoena the DOJ issued against Boston Children's Hospital, home to the country's first gender clinic for adolescents.

Here's what she said about those two phrases.
July 23, 2025 at 6:49 PM
She also said each of these terms violates section 5 of the FTC Act. The DOJ says they will be going after doctors and drug manufacturers for violating this Act and misleading consumers.

Today, she got a letter from Washington's governor, celebrating her victory.

Attorneys General in other pending cases are already taking notice of Tennessee's win. West Virginia AG JB McCuskey said he believes today's ruling suggests a win for his pending cases.

So given that the Court did not rule on whether trans people constitute a suspect or quasi suspect class deserving of this additional scrutiny, lawyers at HRC and ACLU says this leaves open ways for them to fight other anti-trans laws. Here's Chase Strangio:

More from @hrc's Cathryn Oakley —
June 18, 2025 at 6:41 PM
At issue here is the idea of the "suspect class" or "quasi suspect class." I asked @hrc.org 's Cathryn Oakley to explain that in the people's English —

Chase Strangio, the first openly trans lawyer to argue before the Supreme Court, also said today's ruling is much more narrow than the lower court's -- at least a small victory for trans folks.

Also, @southernequality.bsky.social has spent the past two years paying for families to travel for gender transition care. Their executive director says they will be ramping up that work. southernequality.org/tyep/

We are updating the @washingtonpost.com story now on the Skrmetti ruling, but I wanted to share a few feeds from my interviews today. First, HRC's senior legal director says there are still MANY pathways for fighting laws that target trans people.
June 18, 2025 at 4:56 PM
Over the weekend, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth tweeted about the Judge Ana C. Reyes, the federal judge who issued a preliminary injunction against what Hegseth previously described as a ban on trans troops. He suggested she's not a judge.

I need to look up these rulings to see what they say about quasi suspect class. Definitely gonna be a big part of Skrmetti ruling.
