After five long days it is the end of the school week. We use the word Friday for this symbolic day of liberation, named after the Norse God Freyja or Frigg. I like Frigg. It’s funnier. Frigg off Friday.

We only stopped laughing when Mel threw three cards down in front of me. She flipped them over one by one, dragging out the suspense for no reason. "The stars say Ryan’s in trouble." Mel announced. "These cards are worrying, even for someone who doesn’t believe in them. What the hell is this anyway?" I grabbed the middle card and read the name. "The Hanged Man? Jesus Christ." "No, Jesus Christ was crucified." I looked at her with a flat smile, doing my best not to crack up. Mel had stolen my joke. "The Hanged Man, the Devil, and the Lovers." Mel whistled. "Time for you to change your surroundings before you bury yourself in dangerous romances." "That reading’s a week late, Mel." I leaned back, still holding the card. The guy in the illustration didn’t look bothered at all. He just hung there, smiling like he’d found peace in the middle of chaos. "A bit of adrenaline in love is always good. Besides, I’ve already changed my perspective." "Trust the stars." Mel insisted, with that mysterious tone that always makes me want to laugh.

The card playing is a weekly ritual between these men. I’ve watched Bob leave Anne on schedule every Tuesday to hang out with the boys. After dinner at 5, it’s up to the Central Hotel for poker and a few beers. I've never taken an interest in joining Bob, though. Gambling is a vice, after all. It can tempt the best meaning soul into reckless behavior.

Yes! Right now, the ending. The original script has a simplistic ending that doesn’t work and leaves a lot of questions about what the point of the story is. I thought I could fill in some of that as I adapt, and I have, but not enough. #WeeknightWriters

Here’s an early moment with build.
We invested in that line. It might have put the barges out of business but it gave the farmers opportunity for broader trade. Progress isn’t progress without rendering a few innovations obsolete. And the hydroelectric plant was my offering. It was a good thing, too! This great Northeast country was ripe with raw power in the form of waterfalls. Harness it, utilize it, build an empire from it. The Vanderbilts did it with the railways, but I saw our opportunity in the waterways. I brought light to the people of these rural communities, literal light and electricity. They thanked me with revenge. And fire

Then pushed him further away. Nygel pointed a finger around Welling. “… I’ll give you what for, you …” Welling pressed a hand against Nygel’s mouth before he said something that only made everything worse. This was going so very badly and Welling had to wonder if it wasn’t just some exercise in futility. Maybe they were already dead? Then he’d only be wasting his time here when he could be back at the flop house to see if he’d become destitute. He’d have to start again, build up his store of information, rebuild his trust among the criminal element. Or, and this made him feel sick, get a job. “Murple Hurkull, you say?” Brohdee’s fingers drummed on the desk surface. “My, my. Murple Hurkull.”

No builds in Seasons On Ice Book 2 yet, but I have a “building” - an actual building I’ve been to in Springfield, Mass.
"Beth, if you don't take a slice, I'm calling your father." It's bad enough Chloé insists on eating pizza in every city we visit on tour, but seriously, Pizza Hut? And she insisted on dining in instead of taking our pie back to the hotel, so we're sitting here in a building that looks like it hasn't been updated since 1985 with at least three light fixtures out and what I'm pretty sure was either a giant rat or a small cat scurrying into the kitchen.
