One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

Y'all remember when the health insurance marketplace exchange glitched during the rollout, and we heard about it forever?
Sec. Hegseth rolled out the U.S. military’s new AI platform, GenAi.Mil, with a link to an empty website. trib.al/tbCJAkT

Predictably, the platform can’t actually be accessed from external networks, but the wonky rollout triggered eyerolls across the internet.

The only surefire way to stop oligarchs buying up the things we love is to drop those things the moment oligarchs buy them & that requires changing habits and massive self-discipline.
It means going to alternatives that might not be quite as good or convenient.
It’s really hard. But there it is.

The media successfully convinced itself all the humorless scolds were on the left, and while we certainly have our share of them, oh, baby, is it not even CLOSE to how many there are on the right.
NEW: Dr. Oz is quite literally telling his federal employees to eat less.

“You don't have to try every cookie on the holiday table,” wrote Mehmet Oz in an email to all Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services employees.

How much does our little striped cat love my husband?

After coming back in from feeding the cows, we discovered that she'd dropped some cat toys onto the couch cushion he'd been sitting in before we left.

What’s something you’re proud of that rarely comes up in normal conversation?

For me, it’s baking this cookie Settlers of Catan board for my son’s birthday four years ago:

I don't think it's a coincidence that the Franklin series was written by a Canadian woman and that the television adaptation produced for the CBC aired on CBS.

It's giving "stealing from Canada, stealing from a woman, perverting a beloved story about friendship and community."
Anyone have a theory on the administration's sudden obsession with Franklin the turtle?

Fuck AI to DEATH
We were watching a Muppet Christmas Carol and talking a lot about how much amazing work goes into the puppets. The credits rolled and we got to the credit line for “Muppet Milliner” and my friend spontaneously said “you know what….fuck AI to death.”

After this weekend's racist attacks on the EU, I've written a column about the moral obligation to stop posting on X.

Oh no, wait, I wrote it *two years ago* when it was blatantly obvious what was going on and how it would get much much worse.

Fifty years ago, Harlow was the queen of Philadelphia nightlife, Jack Kelly’s girlfriend, and the city's most famous transgender woman. Today, she’s ready to tell her story.

🧵 and article
A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."
