A big big part of it is that billionaires who accumulate massive piles of accumulated wealth can use just a relative pittance of their hoard to corrupt institutions: politics, governance, business, labor, military, police, etc.

The worst corruption in gambling is not some players betting, it’s the gambling corporations getting in people addicted to gambling and ruining their lives, but the guy whose campaigns got hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars from gambling corporations isn’t going to stop them
