Today LHCb presented a new measurement of the decay of a B meson into a K* and a μ+ μ- pair

Previous results disagreed with the Standard Model prediction for the branching fraction and angular distribution

The new measurement has almost twice as much data and still disagrees!

New paper is out! With G. Finauri, P. Gambino, M. Jung and S. Mächler we performed a first-of-its-kind test of New Physics in inclusive B->Xclv decays. This work is crucial to understand whether or not the Vcb puzzle originates from beyond the Standard Model effects! arxiv.org/abs/2507.22123
New Physics in inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays
We study inclusive semileptonic $\bar{B}\to X_c \ell \barν$ decays ($\ell = e,μ$) in the presence of generic physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) that is heavy compared to the $b$-quark mass. Its e...

Cat or Particle Physics Experiment
Do you know whether it's the name of the cat shown or of a particle physics experiment? Quiz made by William Barter, using cat photos provided by colleagues in the University of Edinburgh PPE group.

The B anomalies are still alive!
Long awaited: LHCb has seen discrepancies for years in the angular distributions of B→Kμμ signatures (so in transitions of bottom to strange quarks) that definitely do not agree with the prediction. #CMSPaper 1360 now confirms the LHCb measurements https://buff.ly/3OnJSHe
