I have a cat that sheds cones like it's her business, so I use a paper plate, instead.

I've used it to sharpen a few punches, too, though it takes a lot more finesse for the smaller ones. I hope it does you well if you choose to go that route!

Wet stones are great, but I have to hop on my soap box and recommend the Worksharp MK2. It's a fantastic blade sharpener and insanely user friendly - I use it on everything from knives, to scissors, axes and who knows what.
