I like to pretend this is a dream and I swim in lakes and see mountains and get my heart broken and love my friends and cry so hard in the bathroom and go grocery shopping 1,000 times and that before I wake I promise I would never forget the amazement of being here

At this season of renewal and new hope, let us take a few moments to think about how precious and precarious all things are. Let's take one good look at the passingness of things, the fragility. A single blade of grass, a much-loved coffee mug, a fading photograph, a quick kiss: all speak of the wonder and transitoriness of life-and-death. There is beauty and wonder in this existence. Each of us, from birth to death, is vulnerable to the ebbs and flows of life: the natural transitions, the randomness, the consequences of our own and other's choices. Paying attention to the moments of our lives is a spiritual practice best done in the context of a caring, affirming community. An elder who survived WW2 and knows more than we want to know about the cold war, historically has minimized some recent news as "nah, not gonna happen." This time he did say a few words like crazy and stupid. But then, he said: be quiet, trust no one. It is here.
