Woman Attacked by Pro-Israel Mob: 'I'm Afraid to Walk Around My Own Neighborhood Now' In an interview with Hell Gate, the woman blamed the NYPD for failing to intervene. Then what happened? At some point, this woman near me started screaming at an officer, and people began filming, and so I pulled my scarf up over my face, because I didn't want to be on anyone's camera. And my scarf is not a keffiyeh. If it was, that would have been fine, but it wasn't. So I pulled the scarf up over my face, and then the woman who was screaming turned on me, and started yelling at me, and that immediately drew a mob of men around me. I was already very close to a long line of police who were standing along the curb; there may have been about 20 officers. So I moved closer to them, but they didn't do anything. They did not intervene. They didn't even acknowledge what was happening. They literally just stared straight in front, like, with their eyes glazed over, as though nothing was happening in front of them, willfully ignoring what was happening.

Soderbergh has always had a healthy cynicism when it comes to the film industry, and has often talked about walking away from filmmaking entirely even after he returned to directing following his brief quasi-retirement. So it’s somewhat jarring to see him on the defensive today, and worried about whether there’s a space for him in the future, or the films he likes to make. “I’ve got a lot to think about,” he says, softly. “I think The Christophers is going to be fine, but after that… I can’t go make another movie whose target audience is the same as Black Bag’s. That’s just not an option.” He says he’s not angry, that the job of an artist is to adapt to the world around them, but that he has been destabilised. “I don’t need any more indie cred, you know what I mean?” he says. “I need to make things that people go see.”

Iranian asylum seekers trapped in a hotel in Panama, staring out from underneath the word "HELP" written in lipstick on the window. They arrived at the United States border from around the world, hoping to seek asylum. Instead, they were detained, shackled and flown by the U.S. military to a faraway country, Panama. They were stripped of their passports and most of their cellphones, they said, and then locked in a hotel, barred from seeing lawyers and told they would soon be sent to a makeshift camp near the Panamanian jungle. In one window visible from a sidewalk below the hotel, a woman clawed at a latchless glass pane in an attempt to escape. When she noticed journalists below, she held up a piece of paper that read “Afghan.” She made hand motions that indicated an airplane, then her head falling off. The message seemed to be clear: A flight home meant death.

I didn’t have to grow up in north London to appreciate the arc of a once mighty club that hasn’t won a trophy in decades coming so close, yet remaining so tantalizingly far away. In fact, being perpetually within arm’s reach of glory feels about right to me, having grown up in a state (New Jersey) that mostly outsources its sports teams to one with more obvious cultural capital (New York)."
