I’ve been feeling like such a failure because my book sales have been disappointing, but I went to the @opensecretsmag.bsky.social live show today to speak on a panel and it reminded me that I’m a writer, not just an author, and the craft is the point!!!

Out today in @foreignpolicy.com: I wrote about what will happen if there is an H5N1 pandemic with Robert F Kennedy, Jr. in charge of safeguarding the health of Americans.

If H5N1 begins spreading human to human, the deaths will be counted in millions.🧵👇

What an incredible human being. It was an honor and joy of my life to work with Cecile Richards - She fought so hard for us and alongside us. So grateful for her ferocity and big heart. Deeply grateful. But today, heartbroken 💔 Rest in peace, dear friend 🤍 Love, always 🤍

I just watched a video where a woman recommended becoming obsessed with learning about personal finance as the solution to many of life's problems, including bad jobs and bad relationships, because money buys so many options. And it struck me as an incredibly American thing to recommend to others.

people who have never experienced open racism — or open bigotry of any sort — do not appreciate the way it can be psychologically destabilizing. and on the main, it actually isn’t healthy to be so resilient and thick-skinned that you don’t react to slurs and dehumanization

I want to talk about my trans son, the other trans people I know and love, and the need to fight for their rights. But I keep just circling back to this more basic statement:
“No voting on who gets to be people.”

I just need people to understand that NYC is majority minority city and around a third (someone fact check me on this) of the city is foreign born. But I've not once worked on a desk in journalism in NYC that reflected these demographics.

It’s mostly white people who talk about echo chambers. Maybe you need the internet to meet people with different ideas but the rest of us do not. We know what the “other side” thinks because we deal with it every day! Everywhere! We’re fine. Carry on. Happy Saturday!

Great piece by @annamerlan.bsky.social on the impending disaster that is RFK Jr. possibly running HHS.
