Book 63 of 2025 was "David Bowie's Low" (33 1/3) by Hugo Wilcken - a short enjoyable read, but I wish the author had spent more than a couple of pages on "What In the World"...

Should I dare say "The Family McMullen" was the best romantic comedy I have seen in years?
December 5, 2025 at 6:00 PM
In Asheville for the Bonnie Prince. I had totally forgotten how awful the parking situation is at The Grey Eagle...

Book 62 finished on the year is "The Buffalo Hunter Hunter" by Stephen Graham Jones. This one is a unique take on vampires, which is difficult to pull off with so many works already written on the topic - I enjoyed it.

I just finished book 61 for the year (Charles Soule's "The Endless Vessel"). Every book has its audience, but I'm not sure I was a member of its intended audience. It was all downhill for me once they introduced the book's villains... Team Joy Joy.

"Haha, You Clowns" is the best show on television.

This new Liam Kazar is giving off heavy "Harvest Moon" vibes. I dig it.

I work from home and therefore listen to music approximately ten hours every day. It STILL feels like there isn't enough time to check out everything I want to hear.

Book 60 finished on the year is "Sandworms of Dune", which is the official end of the Dune saga. I will admit I thought this one was a bit convoluted, but overall it had a tension that paid off in the end.

As I am watching the Emirates Cup, I wonder how much the advertising for Abu Dhabi vacations and Emirates Airlines is working for the average NBA fan.

You know we have hit a new low when the Amazon NBA score line is showing parlay and money lines for betting rather than actual scores.

I am currently watching the Alex Rodriguez documentary on HBO and those Junior Griffey highlights... are giving me chills, even all of these years later.

That Jones Beach Outlaw show from August floating around on the internet is one of the cleanest current era Dylan tapes I have ever heard. Enjoying the shit out of it.

I was just thinking about how nice it would be for Hiss Golden Messenger to release a new live album and BAM - right out of the blue BandCamp sends me a notification of a new compilation benefiting SNAP assistance for North Carolina.

The 59th book I have read this year is "Orbital" by Samantha Harvey - an interesting read if you have ever considered a fictional rendering of life on the international space station.

I was looking around on YouTube this morning and found an entire show with Jeff Tweedy using Nickel Creek as his backing band. Chris Thile's mandolin subbing out for Nels' guitar solos on "Impossible Germany" and "Love Is Everywhere (Beware)" is quite stunning.

"John Candy: I like me" might have made me weep... a few times.

Be sure to throw on some Roky Erickson in honor of Halloween!
October 31, 2025 at 10:07 PM
"Star Wars: Phasma" by Delilah S. Dawson was book 58 of the year.

Getting ready for a full day of gambling and pizza ads!

The 57th book I have read this year is "The Good Lord Bird" by James McBride. I'm going to have to track down the mini-series starring Ethan Hawke soon.
October 23, 2025 at 12:18 AM
Book 56 of 2025 was "Creation Lake" by Rachel Kushner. After reading this (and "The Flamethrowers" earlier this year), I definitely feel the pull to check out more of her work.
October 18, 2025 at 1:54 AM
"Jason Molina: Riding With The Ghost" was a quick but heavy read... unfortunately short like the life of its subject. Definitely queuing up "The Lioness" album in the morning so I can hear the line "We are proof that the heart is a risky fuel to burn" for the first time in a while. Book 55 of 2025.

Emily St. John Mandel's "Sea of Tranquility" is the 54th book I have completed this year. After watching "Station Eleven" a few years ago, my expectations were high, and this novel did not disappoint.
October 7, 2025 at 2:39 AM
Book 53 of 2025 was "Billy Summers" by Stephen King. I bought "Duma Key" fairly cheap at the same time I bought this one and will likely be reading more King before the year's end.
