I’ve definitely seen some weird things happen to joints after Librela, but I think it’ll be difficult to come up with a causal mechanism to explain such a variety of side effects, or the lack of any in many cases.

As a constituent, I am extremely disappointed but not surprised. The idea that you would prioritize your reelection over protecting a marginalized group of CHILDREN is abhorrent.

So my work literally getting animals to walk pain-free again is ‘aggressive’ (their words), but their ‘exercises’ count as rehab?

Also, maybe read the instructions on fitting a Help Em Up harness beforehand so the dog doesn’t end up wearing the butt end on his chest for a month!

Here is the veterinary equivalent of that (identifying data removed):

They also send you home with a wheelchair but it’s assembled incorrectly and doesn’t fit right.

Imagine you had surgery for an acute disc herniation and woke up from surgery paralyzed and incontinent. Instead of starting PT, your surgeon gives you four ‘exercises’ to do (one of which is standing), and says if you want you can start more ‘aggressive’ rehab in about a month.

WTF, right?

True. But I’ll readily admit to using Librela in my practice, and have had no adverse effects, because it’s never the only thing I’m doing AND patient selection is important (as well as owner selection).

Anyway, if you’re looking to talk more about how messed up #vetmed is right now (along with everything else), give me a follow!

Also I’m hiring!

Ultimately it means slowing down and approaching the discussion about aging from more angles, including exercise, diet, rehab, supplements, and pain management. For example, don’t wait to start Adequan until they have no cartilage left, because it’s not going to help much!

I think there’s still so much we don’t understand about biomechanics and how dogs adapt in response to pain and OA that could explain a lot of the ‘adverse events’.
