We were thrilled to join the #GoingGlobal2025 conference to discuss how universities can continue to fulfil their roles amidst wars. Cara CEO Matt Foster highlighted the importance of supporting both academics and students during conflict.

Humboldt Foundation @humboldt-foundation.de. We are proud to have supported all (so far) 15 rounds of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative, which provides fellowships for at-risk scholars at universities and research institutions in Germany.

Very pleased to speak at the LSE today on ‘LSE's Legacy of Supporting Scholars at Risk’. Our founder in 1933, William Beveridge, was LSE Director and LSE are strong supporters of our work now too. That support is still much needed 92 years later after a big surge in applications in the last 4 years.

We are very sad to have to announce that our former Chair, Alan McCarthy, Professor later Emeritus Professor at @livuni-ives.bsky.social, passed away on 3 January. He was a Trustee for 18 years and will be much missed.

Dramatic and encouraging news from #Syria. For over 10 years we have worked to support exiled Syrian academics through our Programmes cara.ngo/what-we-do/c.... We hope that events will soon allow them to contribute to rebuilding higher education and civil society in that country.

1000 days since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, we are proud to be supporting the future of higher education in that country, with 39 Ukrainian Fellows so far this year in our Fellowship Programme and 175 in the @britishacademy.bsky.social -led Researchers at Risk programme!

Fascinating talk by Prof Philippe Sands KC for our 2024 'Science and Civilisation' Lecture last month, co-hosted by the Royal Society, on how international courts first struggled to catch up with but are now contributing more positively to climate and environmental protection - bit.ly/SandC24.
