Stripped of his speech and his personal attachments, this is a truly scary iteration of Wolverine. The action is brutal and breakneck and his tragic mission to eliminate his old allies hints at a satisfying, gory revenge tour for the character once he regains his will.

A step up from the not-quite-trainwreck debut issue, it's buoyed by good action and fun references to recent marvel lore but it feels very scattershot. The impending threat is again hastily tacked on to the closing pages, almost seeming like an afterthought.

Pure fun. A mix of serious and silly, feels both original and beholden, but not shackled, to the past. All the essential franchise themes are here (Commander/Destro dynamic, missions to retrieve ridiculous devices, etc.) but it still all feels like a completely fresh take.

Firmly establishes the title within the post-Darkseid status quo in a wordy opening sequence that stops just short of info-dump. Once the setup is complete, things get more interesting as the the issue hints at upcoming "anomaly of the week" stories.

Deftly juggles sibling rivalry, bullying, conspiracy, gender issues and more through the lens of a family under the microscope. It never forgets that it's horror first and foremost and the art creates a pallor over everything with loose lines and shadow.

A rock-solid debut that forgoes the zaniness of the original material in favor of something a bit safer. It's filled with big concepts and monumental stakes but keeps the reader invested by wisely grounding them in the promised conflict between Orion and Scott.
