The idea that they want only legal immigration was a lie from the start.
Routine naturalization ceremonies scheduled for this month in Putnam, Dutchess and Ulster counties to welcome new U.S. citizens were abruptly canceled last week by the federal government, surprising local officials.   buff.ly/8emFeDU

So many thoughts here on the way that corporate (and mostly tech company) CEOs get passes for all the same behavior that would cause people to kill a guy if they saw someone like that on a subway...

The sheer number of Silicon Valley tech families I know who would immediately sign up lol. Nobody enforces no screens as much as that crowd. I regularly get death stares because I park my kid with Miss Rachel when he gets restive in restaurants lol.
The first school to market itself as AI free is going to corner the market on people interested in actually learning. And I would not be surprised if rich families and the children of people creating this tech were the first movers.
My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

Every tech person I know is in no doubt that 1) AI is here to stay 2) that experts in white collar domains including tech are safe 3) junior people are fucked in part because AI is screwing up their ability to learn and making their positions redundant. They understand pipelines are fucked.

Agree with this thread. Worth reading in full.

25 years ago John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and AC Barrett all worked on GWBush's 2000 Florida recount team. What they're doing now is, if anything, more nakedly partisan.

Fire-breathing dissent by Kagan, with Sotomayor and Jackson.
They're not even trying to appear nonpartisan anymore.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

What a pack of fools we are. We threaten them, making it clear that we may not be a reliable ally. Then we get angry that they - quite understandably - don't want to rely on us as they rearm.

Duh.

These clowns can't hold down real jobs because they're shitty, unreliable people... they blame everyone else for their shortcomings, so of course they'll jump at the chance to work for a desperate agency paying big money to eliminate their previous competition... they're still losers.

Just a note to everyone else who has moments of doubt about what they're doing, whether they're capable or talented, just remember that some of the dumbest and privileged fucking people in the world are walking around with all the money and never once consider how unbelievably stupid they are.

The official policy of the Trump Administration is ignorant bigotry. We’re asked, under principles including charity, to assume that people support the administration despite that policy, not specifically because of it. I am increasingly unwilling to extend that charity.

It really isn’t said enough how much these people straight up hate America. People should say this a lot more frequently. They simply don’t like the good parts of modern American life.
"Sources in the Trump administration have previously told Zeteo that officials will at times intentionally use popular music from vocally anti-Trump performing artists, in order to trigger a negative response from a famous liberal and provide further amplification of their pervasive culture war,"

In a new statement, the White House — led by Trump, a liable sexual abuser mired in scandal for ties to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein — suggests Carpenter is "stupid" and is defending pedophiles and rapists.

it is amazing how so much tech gets unremittingly worse year on year at whatever you once used it for and less pleasant to use and more bound up with creepy politics as well as personal and environmental harms and yet also still less productive of actual goods and these are somehow great visionaries

The reactionary worldview is shot through with a deep-seated disdain for America.

In this post, for example, the underlying assumption is that there is nothing special about America's institutions and laws, its civil services, its patterns of life and social norms, its historical developments.
