”Ew.” “It’s so icky.” “It’s so boring.” “I don’t want to lose my capacity to be creative.” They made me so happy 🥹

I am trying to get a writing center off the ground at my high school - we exist (1st year) but promotion has been a slog, so we’re doing plenty of training and promotion and not nearly enough actual coaching… nonetheless there is some overlap with college, so feel free to follow me back 🤷‍♀️

TxGOP completely screwed HISD over… I’m still pissed about that and surprised there hasn’t already been a class-action lawsuit (to my knowledge)

On a side note: If we’re going to pretend that the STAAR test is so vital to accountability- how does that track with chiseling out 16% of state education funding for institutions that aren’t held to the same standards? It doesn’t - so let’s stop pretending STAAR is necessary or even valid.

Meaning, school choice has always existed - private school tuition is akin to paying for a business-class ticket. That class divide isn’t just going to go away - tuition will undoubtedly go up.

Any idea that this will allow poor students access to better schools is extremely naive. Ever been on a cruise? Or an airplane? Or any other place that forces people from different social classes to share space? People will pay incredible amounts of money to avoid being too close to the “riff-raff.”

So it’s even worse than “simply” siphoning public ed funds to rich families- the 1.8% of current public school students who actually get this voucher would get *more* taxpayer funding than the 98% who remain in public schools. Why??
