I visited Fair Oaks Village Park for the first time since they re-did it. They re-imagined it well. The amphitheater looks great.

Stopped at Davis Ranch on Sunday en route back from Lake Alpine for some of their good corn. $12 for 24 ears in the husk.

It was much cooler up there than just 2 weeks ago.The low temp at night was 43F.I'm glad I brought a thick closed-cell foam pad and an extra fleecy sleep sack in addition to the Fast 'n Light summer bag for hammocking. Site 1 didn't have much flat ground for camping.Cathy slept in her Astro van.

Incidentally, we did get some thunder and lightning 🌩️ flashes. Paola and Leo pulled over to one of the islands to wait a bit. The rest of us continued paddling back to camp.

We had some thunder and lightning on Saturday while dispersed kayak camping in the Calaveras area this past weekend. Apparently, this was the same storm that wrought havoc at BRC.

Tips: the smoother, lighter-green bitter melons are less bitter than the darker green, pointy- bumped bitter melon.

I ended up doing two bitter melon dishes: 1) dry-cooked in a wok, then in oil with fermented black bean paste, Shishito peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and black mushrooms, and 2) cooked with seasoned pork sausage, tomatoes, and scrambled eggs.

My young peach tree grew too many peaches. The weight broke two main branches. Dave and I cut the damaged limbs and harvested the still-hard fruit.
